intended use, performance, o r design life of the machine. Reclaimed materials
s h a l l have been collected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed to
become a source of raw materials, a s opposed to virgin raw materials. None of
the above shall be interpreted to mean that the use of used, rebuilt, or
r e m a n u f a c t u r e d end products are allowed under this specification.
3 . 2 . 3 Energy e f f i c i e n c y . T h e m a c h i n e a n d i t s c o m p o n e n t s t h a t d i r e c t l y
consume energy in normal operation shall be designed and constructed for energy
e f f i c i e n c y in accordance with the developments available within the industry.
3 . 2 . 4 Controls. All mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic operating controls
s h a l l be located convenient to the operator's work station(s).
3 . 2 . 5 S a f e t y and health requirements. All parts, components, mechanisms, and
a s s e m b l i e s furnished on the lathe whether or not specifically required herein,
s h a l l conform to all requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and ANSI 611.6. If a
conflict arises between 29 CFR 1910 and ANSI B11.6,
29 CFR 1910 shall apply.
Additional safety and health requirements shall be as specified (see 6.2).
Covers,
guards, or other safety devices normally furnished as standard on the
m a n u f a c t u r e r ' s commercial machine s u p p l i e d to the commercial m a r k e t shall be
provided for the point of operation and all other parts of the lathe that
present
safety hazards. I f p o i n t - o f - o p e r a t i o n g u a r d i n g i s i n f l u e n c e d b y
workpiece s i z e a n d c o n f i g u r a t i o n , t h e p r o c u r i n g a c t i v i t y s h a l l p r o v i d e p a r t
design data to the supplier of the machine (see 6.2). The supplier of the
machine shall provide the special guarding which shall meet OSHA 29 CFR 1910.
3 . 2 . 6 M e c u r y r e s t r i c t i o n . T h e lathe shall not contain mercury or mercury
compounds nor be exposed to free mercury during manufacture.
3 . 2 . 7 A s b e s t o s restriction.
Asbestos and materials containing asbestos shall
not be used on or in the machine.
3 . 2 . 8 E n v i r o n m e n t a l Protection.
D u r i n g the manufacture, operation, service,
transportation,
o r s t o r a g e o f the machine and its components, m a t e r i a l s
h a z a r d o u s to the ecological system as prohibited by applicable Federal, state,
o r local statutes in effect on the date of the contract shall not be used or
emitted.
3.2.9 Lubrication.
M e a n s shall be provided to ensure adequate lubrication
for all moving parts. Recirculating lubrication systems shall include a
cleanable or replaceable filter. Means for determining oil level in each
r e s e r v o i r s h a l l be by an oil level sight gauge,
a low oil level warning light,
or similar device and shall be in clear view of the operator's normal work
s t a t i o n . A n automatic lubrication system shall be provided for all ways and
a x i s screws.
E a c h lubricant reservoir shall have at least a 24-hour capacity
and means for determining fluid level. All oil holes, grease fittings, and
f i l l e r caps shall be readily accessible.
3.2.10 I n t e r c h a n g e a b i l i t y . A l l
parts subject to
replacement shall be
m a n u f a c t u r e d to definite dimensions and tolerances. Replacement parts (except
f o r hand-fitted parts such as ways and boxed bearings) shall be interchangeable
w i t h o u t r e q u i r i n g m o d i f i c a t i o n . Replacement parts are those which are subject
