4 . 4 F i r s t a r t i c l e inspection
W h e n a first article inspection is required,
i t s h a l l b e a p p l i e d t o t h e f i r s t a r t i c l e s u b m i t t e d i n a c c o r d a n c e w i t h 3.1.
U n l e s s otherwise specified (see 6.2), f i r s t a r t i c l e i n s p e c t i o n s h a l l c o n s i s t o f
t h e e x a m i n a t i o n i n 4 . 6 a n d a l l t e s t s i n 4 . 7 . T h e machine shall pass the
examination and all tests to be accepted.
4 . 5 Q u a l i t y conformance inspection. Q u a l i t y conformance inspection shall be
a p p l i e d to each lathe prior to being offered for acceptance under the contract.
Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2),
q u a l i t y conformance inspection shall
c o n s i s t of the examination in 4.6 the tests in 4.7.1 through 4.7.4.4 and the
i n s p e c t i o n in 4.8. T h e machine shall pass the examination, all tests, and the
i n s p e c t i o n to be accepted.
4 . 6 Examination. Each lathe shall be examined to determine compliance with
a l l requirements of this specification.
4.7
Tests.
4 . 7 . 1 T e s t c o n d i t i o n s . All tests shall be performed in a n i n d o o r f a c i l i t y
w i t h ambient conditions of 41 to 104 Fahrenheit and 20 to 95 percent relative
humidity.
4 . 7 . 2 Operational
test
E a c h machine shall be operated at no load for not
less than 1 hour. P r o p e r operation o f a l l c o n t r o l s ,
motors, a d j u s t i n g
m e c h a n i s m s , and accessories shall be verified during the trial period.
4 . 7 . 3 A l i g n m e n t tolerance test
E a c h machine shall be tested to determine
compliance w i t h t h e a l i g n m e n t t o l e r a n c e requirements of 3.6. The alignment
t o l e r a n c e test shall be performed prior to and subsequent to the performance
tests given in 4.7.4.
Any machine a d j u s t m e n t s required to comply with 3.6
d u r i n g or after the performance test shall be cause for rejection.
4 . 7 . 4 Performance t e s t s
Each lathe shall be subjected to the following
c u t t i n g tests to determine whether the performance under cutting loads is within
the
requirements of this specification. All performance tests shall be
completed without making any adjustments to or performing any maintenance on the
machine.
